US medical device company Terumo Neuro, a subsidiary of Terumo Corporation (TYO:4543), on Monday announced the commercial availability of the SOFIA Flow 88 Neurovascular Aspiration Catheter in the EMEA region.
This large-bore catheter is designed to enhance procedural control, flexibility, and reliability for ischemic stroke interventions.
Building on over a decade of clinical use and innovation in the SOFIA catheter line, the SOFIA Flow 88 features a 0.088-inch inner diameter and proprietary engineering for enhanced trackability, proximal stability, and vessel-friendly navigation. It incorporates nitinol braid and coil reinforcement to maintain lumen integrity while minimising vessel trauma through a flexible design and a soft, atraumatic distal tip.
The catheter is compatible with the SOFIA Plus 6F Aspiration Catheter and integrates into current aspiration strategies. Supporting clinical evidence from the SOFAST registry and SESAME trial has shown strong outcomes in speed, safety, and efficacy.
The new device complements Terumo Neuro's full stroke portfolio, which includes aspiration catheters, retrieval devices, balloon guide catheters, and guidewires.
