French biotech company Transgene (Euronext Paris:TNG) announced on Tuesday that it will present new preclinical data on its TG-MVA prophylactic vaccine candidates against mpox at the World Congress on Infectious Diseases in Barcelona.
The presentation will highlight Modified Vaccinia Ankara (MVA)-based candidates produced via chicken embryo fibroblasts (TG-MVACEF) and a scalable cell line-based process (TG-MVACL).
The MVA viral vector, derived from a smallpox vaccine virus, has demonstrated a strong safety profile and is positioned as suitable for Orthopoxvirus vaccine development. Preclinical results in mice and non-human primates showed protective effects against Monkeypox virus infection and supported continued development.
Transgene said its TG-MVA programme builds on its expertise in viral vector technology, including its myvac platform for cancer immunotherapies, while expanding into infectious disease applications. The company is also evaluating options to further develop TG-MVA to strengthen vaccine supply resilience amid limited global vaccine availability and potential biosecurity risks.
