The US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has stated that the US has administered 408,265,959 doses of COVID-19 vaccines as of 17 October 2021, Reuters news agency reported on Monday.
This is an increase over the 407,446,961 COVID-19 vaccine doses administered on 16 October 2021.
According to the CDC, 218,805,579 people had received at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose while 189,141,481 people were fully vaccinated as Sunday morning.
This tally includes two-dose vaccines from US pharmaceutical companies Moderna Inc (Nasdaq:MRNA) and Pfizer (NYSE:PFE)/BioNTech (Nasdaq:BNTX), as well as Johnson & Johnson's (NYSE:JNJ) one-shot vaccine.
Also, over 10.5 million people have received a booster dose of either the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine since 13 August 2021, when the US authorised a third dose of the vaccines for those with compromised immune systems.
This authorisation for booster shots has since been broadened to a wider population, Reuters added.
