Inovio reports encouraging results in development of universal flu vaccine
31 January 2012 - Inovio Pharmaceuticals Inc (NYSEAMEX:INO), a US-based vaccine development company, said on Tuesday that its synthetic vaccines for influenza Type A H3N2 and Type B achieved protective antibody responses in immunised animals against multiple unmatched strains.

Inovio said earlier that the results from a Phase I study showed that its H5N1 synthetic vaccine achieved hemagglutination inhibition (HI) titers against six unmatched strains of this influenza subtype.

Dr J Joseph Kim, Inovio's president and chief executive, said that the latest data for H3N2 and Type B in animal models were yet another proof of the effectiveness of the company's strategy to develop a universal influenza vaccine. Kim said that Inovio succeeded in providing protection in animals against all of the circulating influenza strains of the last 10 years.
