10 September 2019 -

Molina Healthcare of Ohio, a provider of government-funded, quality health care to low-income individuals, declared on Tuesday that it has donated USD11,000 to the Ohio chapter of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP), in recognition of World Suicide Prevention Day.

According to Molina Healthcare, death by suicide claims nearly 50,000 lives in the US each year and an estimated one million people worldwide die by suicide annually. The World Health Organization has said that this equates to a death every 40 seconds.

The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention is dedicated to saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide. It aims to bring awareness to this growing crisis, while supporting prevention, research, education, advocacy, and support for survivors and others who have been affected by suicide, Molina Healthcare added.

Molina Healthcare of Ohio serves approximately 297,000 members through Medicaid, Medicare, Medicare-Medicaid (Duals) and Health Insurance Exchange programs across the state.
