GVK Biosciences licenses SAR database GOSTAR to US FDA under drug repositioning agreement
19 June 2013 - 19 June 2013 - Indian contract research organisation (CRO) GVK Biosciences said Wednesday it had licensed its SAR, PK and Toxicity Database (GOSTAR) to the US drug regulator FDA.

The material transfer agreement is part of a cooperation in drug repositioning, with an initial focus of identification of alternative therapeutic indications of marketed compounds for neglected and orphan diseases, the company added.

The Indian firm has developed a Drug Repurposing Platform with eight approaches for the drug repurposing collaboration. The platform will use data from GVK Biosciences' databases including SAR databse (GOSTAR), Biomarker database (GOBIOM) and other public databases.

GOSTAR comprises more than 6.5 million compounds manually curated through the manual screening of over 2.5 million patents and 400,000 journals, as well as more than 18 million quantitative SAR points.
