7 August 2012 - Generic pharmaceutical company Qualitest Pharmaceuticals said on Monday that it has launched its generic Singulair (montelukast sodium) Tablets and Chewable Tablets on the market.

This market launch of generic Singulair follows the expiration of the last patent that provides Merck with US market exclusivity.

The company added montelukast sodium tablets are labeled for use in treating symptoms of asthma and allergic rhinitis.

According to IMS Health, the total combined sales for montelukast sodium tablets and chewables in the US were about USD4.9bn for the 12 months ending 30 June 2012.

Qualitest is an operating company of Endo Health Solutions Inc (NasdaqGS:ENDP), a US healthcare company.
